'We will never sell your data' 🤣 The Business Transfer Clause
"We promise to never sell your data"
small print: "We reserve the right to transfer all of your data to any company that buys us..."
I'm confident that whichever tool you use to track your life or keep a daily journal promises to never sell your information.
Look at their privacy policy right now and look for the Business Transfer clause. This is where they reserve the right to transfer all of your data to the acquiring company if they are purchased. Fitbit did the exact same thing when Google bought them.
If your data is stored on a server in a readable format. It is extraordinarily valuable. They'll be bought, and your information will be accessible under a new privacy policy that doesn't include "Don't be evil."
That's why it's critical to look for habit and journaling apps that store data encrypted END-TO-END. That is, data is encrypted on your device before being saved to any cloud server.
Nomie 6 will offer end-to-end encrypted cloud storage in addition to local and self-hosted storage. Assuring that no one can read Nomie's journal data, regardless of who owns it.
